Bettie, all
There have been announcements across the project about what's
going
on & what we, the AB have been doing. Also announcements/messages
of communications with RW folks. There was also a message on the
6th of March sent to all members through Larry Stephens (the one
that sends out passwords for elections). It was concerning the
banners that RW/TGN plans on putting on any RW sites
I am not referring to the messages from Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Graham
or banners or commercial promos or URL changes.
Our benevolent benefactors made it abundantly clear what the
intentions of RW/TGN were. Without any advance notice, they
incorporated a policy without prior notice to any of us page holders.
I think most of us are fully aware of the history of the USGWP and
the agreement we originally accepted from Brian and Karen and the
original RW concept.
If not, anyone can read it for themselves at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~socgen/history.html.
It was a good deal then and many of us responded by adding RW logos
and the appropriate thanks (at least, I did).
The BOARD seems to be focused on banners and URLs, as well as motions
and withdrawal of motions and polling members and withdrawing the same motions.
I have saved each and every BOARD-L message and wonder where in the
universe you elected officials are residing.
The pressing issues facing the thousands of USGWP members seem bogged
down in the same kind of bureaucracy as the US Congress.
While this may seem to be minutia, I truly believe there are more
important agendas than ignoring input from our CCs.
All the efforts spent with parliamentary maneuvering and personal
posturing might be better spent informing the USGWP membership of
critical events.
I am more concerned with the future of the work that I and my fellow
historians and genealogists have spent in time and efforts to help the public.
Back in 1996, when I first posted my collections of data, I expected
that they would forever be available on a non-profit basis. Needless
to say that was a youthful naivete.
To the addressees of this post, I would suggest that more effective
communication be made to all CCs in our Project.
As a charter member of the USGWP, I continue to respond to others who
have no clue to what has recently transpired.
This indicates to me that all of our members have not been informed.
Outside of the NCGWP, what would you suggest I tell them?
In closing, I seek some assurance from those elected officials that
we are all on the same page. It was easy being under the RW banner
with a single data source. Now that we have chosen our separate ways,
we need to address that issue.
"United we stand. Divided we fall."
