I just got word that e-mails I have sent to various people are bouncing on
the makeshift e-mail server that my admin tried to set up for me. Normally
I do have my own e-mail server on
patch.net but my computer guru tried to
move it since it is still without power. I am getting all incoming mail (I
think), but some of my outgoing mail is bouncing because some servers are
rejecting mail from the makeshift setup. All my incoming e-mail from 9-12
to 9-19 is completely lost since everything in Houston was down, including
SWBell.
I am going to try to switch to another e-mail server for now but just wanted
everyone to know that if you do not get a response from me, it is because of
server problems.
Just a note to those who have indicated connection problems with the
ncgenweb.us server; I think the problem is with the various routers along
the way and not with the server. As you have all heard, there has been
wide spread power loss as far north as Ohio and Ill. While your own ISP may
be working fine, the various routers along the way to the actual site may
not be working properly. This explains why some have had problems reaching
the site while others have not. I have checked the logs on the ncgenweb.us
server and can find nothing to indicate there has been a problem with the
server itself. Although my personal server is physically only a couple of
miles from my home, the people in the area do not expect power to be
restored for at least another week. If anyone wants to check to see where
the problem is, you can do so by going to a cmd prompt screen and typing:
tracert
www.ncgenweb.us
This will then show where there are router problems creating issues, whether
it is on the ncgenweb.us server or any other site.
Again, I am among the lucky ones. I live close to 2 universities and the
medical center which were priorities for the restoration of power.
