Hi y'all,
I have been notified by the USGW EC Chairman, Linda Haas Davenport that I
have garnered a plurality of votes in the NCGenWeb election for State
Coordinator. I consider this to be a great honor and privilege. My
first pledge to all members of the NCGW is to be an advocate for the
entire NCGW, the USGW and for all those who have volunteered their time and
resources for this noble cause.
While I received less than a majority of those qualified to vote, I will
try to rally our folks around the focus of activities which we originally
agreed to perform. Lately, we have been stuck in freeze-frame because of
spats and personality conflicts that have dominated. No need to cast blame
or relive past events. Let's declare an end to it and move on.
We have a new charter, one which will involve each and every one of us.
There is absolutely no reason that we can't be the very best among our 50
brethren. Its going to involve a great amount of work--but not really much
more than many of us have already given.
The main thing to remember is that we are ALL volunteers. None of us has
earned any compensation for our efforts. Our reward has been the
satisfaction of supplying others with needed information.
This is certainly not "Derick's empire." I am not an empire-builder. I hope
to see the job of State Coordinator recognized for what it really is---NCGW
facilitator.
To those who voted for me, thank you for your support. To those who failed
to vote, I hope I can help you restore the desire you had when you first
signed on. To those who may have voted for someone else---please give me
the opportunity to work with you and for you.
I intend to surround myself with those who have the best interests of the
USGW/NCGW in mind. I am well aware that I don't possess a mandate for this
position and need all the help I can get. For that reason, I hope that each
and every one of you will support those who choose to help us to be the
very best we can be.
If you care to communicate with me privately, I will keep that confidence.
Warmly,
Derick S. Hartshorn
