There is already a search engine in place on the USGenWeb where you can search for your
surname and
specify the state.
I agree a search engine for all of the NCGenWeb County and Special Project
ites is an excellent idea. We could put links to it on our homepages so
esearchers can search the whole state rather than just the site they are on
r the whole USGenWeb. They way our ancestors bounced from County to County
ometimes it is hard to keep track of and this would allow them to search
ll of the sites with ease.

allowed to index. If everyone feels it is something we
would like to do on the state level, I have said I would
be
happy to do the busy work but it is up to the state to
decide if that is what we wish to do. If the state should
decide to do our own, it would only employ FreeFind or
Google, both of which do honor robots.txt and it would be
transparent so that anyone could step in to do the
maintenance if needed.
I.e. Set up a search engine on our home page that covers
all content
on all the NCGenWeb county pages, but no other sites? I
think that
would be excellent.
