Y'all,
Seems like our USGWP National leaders are currently trying to determine what the meaning
of "is" -- "is." Actually the anachronism is "NIGS" -
"not-in-good-standing." Seems they don't know how to interpret what a
Project has already decided.
Actions taken by me and by the leaders of the NCGenWeb Project to declare certain Project
participants as "member not in good standing" and their ultimate expulsion have
had a very positive effect on our Project. The decision to remove two Project members for
just cause has been adequately documented in the archives for anyone's examination, in
spite of the fact that some USGWP Board members claim they ... "don't have time
for that!" The bottom line turned upon whether our Project wanted to pursue endless
squabbles or whether we wanted to accomplish positive steps. The facts were presented. The
people have spoken.
I hope that all of the past and present officers of the NCGWP will continue to sustain the
just actions of their predecessors. If the USGWP attempts to relax standards and overturn
just actions enacted by a Project, I can only predict continued strife and ultimate
destruction of a project dedicated to our family of volunteers. When actions to expel
member(s) from the NCGWP was made, it was a unanimously action taken by the standing
officers.
From what I detect, the NCGWP is a much more harmonious unit now. I am
delighted to see Angie appoint the folks she has chosen. They certainly have my full
confidence. Perhaps this will usher in an era of tranquility. The Project wasted much too
much time in the past with the disruptive and the immature. Hopefully, the USGWP and other
Projects will detect our positive attitude and stand together to support the original
goals.
Since the future of the entire Project is depends on the moods and motives of the USGWP
leadership, the upcoming election is extremely critical. I would like to offer my totally
unbiased opinions regarding those currently seeking election.
During the last election for National Coordinator, I voted for the "lesser of the two
weasels." Never again!
Sadly, most of those on the list of nominees are either already playing for another team,
Narcissistic or downright treacherous. Some are totally ineffective and personally
offensive. Sadly, the best candidates for that office declined the nomination--except for
one, Janice Webster Brown. If she can't take the politics out of the USGWP, nobody
can. I fully support her candidacy and urge her election. Visit her at:

In the position of Representative-at-Large, the list of candidates is a very good
representation of well-qualified folks. All things being equal, one has to root for the
home-state folks, since all are well equipped for this office. In this case, our NC SC-to
be, Angie Rayfield is my pick.
The Archives Project, Tombstone Project and SE/MA SC Rep. candidates seem to be well
qualified candidates. Vote your conscience. Hard to make a bad pick here.
The SE/MA CC Rep. also has long list of good folks. My pick is Denise Woodside, our NCGWP
Sampson County CC.
As far as I am concerned, the future of this Project has everything to do with how much
bad behavior is tolerated. Everyone I am aquainted with--my fellow NC CC's are
dedicated to their craft and don't want to take time out for politics. I just urge
them to vote during this coming election to preserve our Project.
I make no apology for my zero-tolerance policy of bad behavior during my time as NCGWP SC.
I hope that short six-month term as SC helped to make a difference.
Respectfully,
Derick Hartshorn
NCGWP State Coordinator (till July 1)
