Warren,
Thank you for your very special letter.............I hope you didn't feel like I was
getting on you....it's tough for me, as I have been
given so much help in my genealogical research, that I feel I HAVE to give back.? So my
websites.
?Sometimes I get a little too passionate about it.
Have not been to your Johnston County website yet.......will make it a point to get there
very soon.
I guess my run ins with Genealogical Societies (not all of them) carries bias, and I
shouldn't let it.
For example --- we had a lady that was reading a?cemetery and another lady approached her,
and asked what
she was doing.........she told her she was reading the cemetery to put it on line.? The
other lady told her, "You
can't do that, I belong to the genealogical society and we have this cemetery
copyrighted.? I told Eva Joyce
to go ahead and read the cemetery, and she did.
That's just one of many instances.? But then I have had them help somewhat.........but
you normally have to be a member
or they will charge you for the information........
Their books are hit and miss, as you have no idea whether or not you will find your
ancestors in them........if you don't,
oh well.?
Would be nice if they would allow you to at least put up an index of names in the books so
folks could check them out
..........might bring more sales.
One of the local?genealogical society's? put a 3 volume set of cemeteries out in
1986........they are still trying to sell
them--------23 years ago, and they have never updated.? Plus we found cemeteries that they
never catalogued.
Keep up with the good work, and take care of yourself.
Sharon

I am sorry about your illness, and believe me I know that limits
sometimes.........I am 62 years old, and have stage 4 breast
cancer, so yes I know.
My heart goes out to you. I'm 62 also and have been on LTD since 1996

So the genealogical society, has done all the cems?---Old ?records,
including cems are in the Public Domain, but it costs
money to get the books and it takes a LOT of time to transcribe info off
of microfilm (have done that)..........?
I wish I could solve all these problem. I cannot read microfilm myself.
You want to see someone get sick. It's aweful. I have great trouble
reading old written records. Many people can't read the old records and
others have trouble with microfilm. I'm not going to do it because I can't.

And I do know what it is to have to "cross swords" with
genealogical
societies.........been there done that several times.
The whole goal?of the USGenWeb, and always has been is for researchers to
be able to have?access to FREE genealogy.
I have worked so hard to keep all involved happy. I've done a good job of
it and well respected here.

You write that you won't give up Johnston County and that you
can't put up
info, because everybody else has done all of it,
but you are looking forward to going back to work at the Heritage
Center..........isn't Johnston Co NCGen as important as the Heritage
Center???????
This is hard to answer. I don't have the energy to answer it right now.
Really!

So what if someone transcribed a cemetery in Johnston County, and
offered
it to you to put on the site?? Would you tell them to put it in the
Archives, or better yet, you can't take it because the genealogical
society had already done it ?????
I have a lot of cemetery records on my site. I take them all the time. I'll
take about anything. I don't take them if they copied it directly from the
genealogy societyor other publsihers which happens all too often. I do
n't
send anything to the Archives. Its never been my cup of tea and very far
from much data entry.
I don't want to be against our project nor our leaders. I want all to be
fair and level headed. It is not such now.
Again, my prayers are with you and please keep us informed.
Thanks,
Warren
