Warren and Sharon,
All I can say is that you make me feel healthy by comparison and that is not
easy. I do thank God each and every day for anything productive I can
accomplish on any given day, week or month. I am older than either of you
and very limited in what I can do physically but I try to remind myself that
every time I am able to enrich the lives of others in a small way, it is
worthwhile and it keeps me going. That even extends to encouraging others to
join us in our efforts. I have made many life long friends over the years
simply because they happened to see something I had posted somewhere and
contacted me. The researchers have certainly enriched my life.
We can't all be young and healthy again but we can continue to impact the
lives of others in our own way and the mere fact we can not accomplish as
much as some of the younger people can does not in any way diminish our
contributions. Warren, I have seen your posts on mailing lists for many
years and I know how you are always eager to share and help others. Yes,
our sites are important and we should be able to make small updates so that
we continue to attract visitors and participation but we also need to find a
way to help those who contribute so much in other ways.
I think one of the things we might think about as a group is trying to
encourage others to share by contributing to those sites where the CC is
perhaps less able to transcribe data than in years gone by. I know of at
least one state where that is done in a cooperative way and everyone
benefits. I don't doubt that many of our younger CCs would gladly transcribe
at least a page every now and then to update the site of someone who can't.
I also know that many active people in genealogy will happily contribute
data to any site where they feel their contributions are valued.
I hope that all three of us will remain active in the NCGenWeb for many
years to come.
Bless you for all you have done and will continue to do and thanks for
sharing your opinions.
