I forwarded this request to Diane who does Lenoir county already, but
thought I'd share it with you all in case someone else had some
suggestions/ideas. Please contact Daryl if interested.

Last month I was contacted by someone in the United Kingdom:
Can you help me? I have a very old bible believed to be
issued to troops in the 1914/18 world war 1. The name
inside is as follows.
William Earl Brewer
119th infantry battalion
60th brigade
30th division
I believe it was found in France/Belgium.
At
http://docsouth.unc.edu/wwi/conway/conway.html I found:
"Brewer, William E, BCpl Hq"
At
http://docsouth.unc.edu/wwi/graham/graham.html I found:
"BREWER, W. E., Corpl., Inf. Hdqrs., 30th Div., 119th Reg.; of Lenoir
County; son of J. I. and Margaret Brewer. Entered service June 16, 1916, at
Kinston, N. C. Sent to Camp Glenn, N. C. Transferred to Camp Stewart,
Texas, then to Camp Sevier, S. C. Sailed for Calais, France, May 28, 1918.
Was in all engagements of 30th Div. Served on the Mexican border for six
months. Returned to U. S. A. 1919, at Charleston, S. C. Mustered out at
Camp Jackson, S. C., April 7, 1919. Promoted to Corpl. Aug., 1918."
With some more research ... I think he's the William Earl Brewer born 11
Feb 1894, died Mar 1941, who married Sophie Jane Knott, and had William
Earl Brewer Jr born 21 Oct 1921 at Lenoir County, North Carolina. William
Jr married Mary Marsh Hood, and they had William Earl Brewer III who
married Joan Sanford.
The couple in the UK would like to return the Bible to a descendant. If the
NCGenWeb can find a descendant and contact information, please let me know
and I will get you in contact with the UK couple.
