I recently sent an e-mail to let everyone know of the
indexing project for the 1900 North Carolina Census. Two
days later, I got word that there had been so many
volunteers that the 1900 Census for North Carolina is now
complete. I do not know when it will be available online
but apparently the initial indexing is done.
Now I have another to announce. Joy Fisher with the
USGenWeb Archives has worked with the familysearchindexing
group (FSI) to begin indexing early Virginia tax rolls. The
project is still in the planning phase and there are still
issues to be worked out but if anyone is interested in
spending just a little time indexing a few pages you are
invited to join a mailing list where announcements will be
made when the project actually starts. All you need to do
is send e-mail to:
va-tax-subscribe(a)theusgenweb.org , with or without
"subscribe" as the subject. The list will be used by Joy to
keep volunteers informed. Apparently volunteers will even
have the option of working on a particular county if they
wish to it may be helpful to our own research.
The tax rolls will be made available online as each is
completed. I will let everyone know when the project is
actually underway so that those who wish can share the link
with their local researchers.
