Uh-oh, Warren.
I've heard from a couple of other people who recall it being out New
Bern Ave.... on property more recently occuped by Dpt of Motor
Vehicles - (someone said where the old state fairgrounds were....but
that must have been before my time, since I only recall the state fair
being where Dorton Arena is).
Anyway, I know Five Points and Glenwood Ave - which is definitely not
the New Bern Ave. area.
Of course, I doubt any of us are old enough to recall where the Old
Soldiers' Home was back in 1900 <grin>. Maybe it started in one place
and moved to another?
I'm trying to find the Old Soldiers' Home in the 1900 and 1910 censuses,
hopefully without scrolling through the ENTIRE Raleigh Township - or
even the entire city of Raleigh, for that matter. Raleigh Township -
and City - are divided into several districts, with reasonable
descriptions of their boundaries. So if I have a decent idea of where it
was, I can go scroll that part of the census and find it. (...or so my
theory goes <g>)
Thanks,
Sandy

I know a lot about this but have forgotten it all! Ha.
Actually, I have been there as a young person to visit someone. Wish I
could remember who it was. It's very near the Five Points area off of
Glenwood Ave. I though I might have a photo of it but? I remember the
front of it well. I rode by several years ago and can't remember if the
building is still there. Sure seems to me to be a school site now. It
sure
was a sad place!
I can get more info on it depending on what you need. Just let me know.
I do know I'm not old enough to have visited a Civil War soldier there.
Ha
again.
Will be delighted to help.
