From the posted results, this looks to be a non-issue. I'm fine with the
previous decision of our membership.
Thank you, Carson, for keeping that page.

I have, since I began working with NCGenWeb, abstained from all

operation of NCGenWeb. That said...
For reference refer to the archives of the NCGenWeb (not discuss) list
for
early-2000. In May 2000 we CCs held a referendum by ballot regarding
this
and other issues. The results of that balloting is still online at
http://members.aol.com/carsonturner/results.htm (it's a wonder
that I never
removed that page) --- these were the decisions of the group at the
time and
they are not entirely the same results that are presently being
discussed as
representative. For example, we decided that each volunteer would be
granted
one vote with only one vote per county. We granted voting rights to
Qualla,
Military, and Unknown... We granted voting rights to each of the
extinct
counties. I don't recall any later voting on these issues...
That said, I continue my position that I will not participate in voting
processes in NCGenWeb. As for the Military Project - I am simply
holding the
keys until someone decides to develop the pages. I can not feel
motivated to
develop those pages considering the resistance that remains within the
project. Further, I really believe that these resources belong on the
county
level pages in long term storage (ie archives) and that history of
military
events (vs personal histories) belong connected to military history
projects.
I do actively work on the Unknown County Page (which is more a static
reference) and the querry board. My personal feeling is that the
Unknown
County page is a task of the state and therefor NOT a separate
project --
that is though my personal feeling on the issue.
Of greater concern to me is that we held this very same discussion
nearly 2
years ago and have not yet progressed beyond it. We had the same
points of
concern and the same questions. We resolved the issue then and now are
re-visiting it. That the discussion at that time caused us to lose
some very
fine volunteers in favor of some overly vocal who are now no longer
members
in good standing concerns me even more. Whether members agree with the
methodology of that referendum, it remains that the process presented
the
majority opinion of the members at the time. None of those issues were
closely battled at the time.
