I thought I'd pass along the link to a wonderful website for
Plantations
research called Sankofa's African Slave Genealogy, Sankofagen Wiki, which is
creating a database of Plantations across the US during the antebellum
period. The website includes the names of the plantations, the owners and
people associated with it, each with a little history of the families, as
well as a listing of the slaves and any other info concerning them that have
been found in records that were a part of the plantations. This is a
wonderful way to help researchers of both the slaveholders as well as the
slaves and can greatly help in tracing those slaves. The website is
currently still adding data for the locations of plantations and is in
varying stages of creativity some locations having more data than others,
but it is getting off to a good start; I have been involved in creating the
pages for 3 of them so far in North Carolina, for the counties of Granville
& Warren, and am researching a few others from the area.
