Diana,
Reposting messages from this list is not a problem any more, as
I have told the person who started grievance proceedings against
me lately for doing just that, so I won't be doing so any more.
(Not that I won't be posting updates to the Read Only list, but
that I won't post any messages from this list without specific
permission from the writer, so not to worry about that.)
For the record, the grievance was settled before actually being
filed with the AB.
However, this attitude of deliberately wanting to withhold
useful information from those who do not want to be forced to
receive the sometimes more than unpleasant messages that have
often been a part of our past, puzzles me. Are we talking here
about trying to make sure everyone is informed about what is
currently being discussed and may come to a vote, or about
punishing those who choose not to be a party to every nit-picky
thing that is going on?
I believe the true spirit of the affirmative vote to make the
mandatory list Read Only and the Discuss list mandatory for the
SC was so the SC could keep the Read Only list updated about
things that would, or could, ultimately affect the whole project.
In my opinion, to repost an actual message is more honest and
fair to the original writer of the message. I believe that is
the best way to fairly relay what a message says. Anything less
is paraphrasing and may result in misrepresentation of the original
message intended by the writer.
And, just for the record, to the best of my memory, whenever I
did repost a message to the Read Only list, I did the whole
message with my responses inserted at the points where I was
responding. I made every effort that the whole context of the
original message was there to be read.
For example, the whole paragraph that I had posted in response
to Ron's message was this:
"However, since you and one other person have recently made it clear
that you do not want me to "copy and paste" any of your messages
onto the Read Only list, even with identification removed, so I might
respond to any questions that may have been asked, you are making
sure that about half the CCs, maybe a few more, will never hear
your opinions at all. That is beyond my control, and I can only
handle things as I see clearance to do so."
When a message has been sent to the Discuss list I thought it was
meant to be available to any CC of NCGenWeb, not just the CCs who
were on the list. That was my mistake, and as I have said above,
There will be no more messages sent to the Read Only from the
Discuss list without permission of the writer.
Sincerely,
Sharon

Please make that three. I do not want anything I send to this list posted
to the read-only, announce list without my permission. I think that is just
good net courtesy.
It is my opinion that people who opt not to be on this list, are not
interested in your responses to anything we say here anyway. They have
opted OUT of the discussion, so why keep taking it to them? You might
inform the announce list that important discussion is now underway on
such-and-such a topic, on which a vote may be taken. I wouldn't go any
further than that. I think you discourage the use of this list by
frequently taking a synopsis of it to the announce list.
