As a list owner, this is relevent to those that have county/region

him and to the lists as follows:
Derick, thanks for letting us know that J. Altenoff is charging for his
lookups. This isn't exactly made clear in his "announcement" that has been
slathered over all the state and county lists.
Regarding the alternatives, the free database that Marceline Beem has set
up with input from Betsy Ross and me
<
http://tn-3.rootsweb.com/~marce/bmd/search.cgi>
is built on user contributions. It already includes many records that are
recorded in the NC marriage bonds and licenses, but also has records that
come from church, Bible and family records and don't appear in the bond
lists. There are more than 20,000 records already in this database, and
it's growing rapidly.
I had started to include the information about the microfiche bond records
being available at the LDS family history centers, but looking further down
my mail I see that Derick and Sandy have already covered this. I should
note that you can check on-line at the
familysearch.org web site to see if
a particular bond is included in the fiche, and get the bond number if it
is, although you can't get all the information about bondsmen and witnesses
from this.
Until recently,
Ancestry.com had the bond records, including the full
information, on their databases, but when I tried to check something
yesterday it didn't come up in the list of NC databases available. Does
anyone know why this isn't showing up? They still had a list of bonds
pre-1825 and a very incomplete database of 1850-1868 marriages, but not the
big and very useful list that was there a few weeks ago.
