I know more about WWII than WWI, but RMA is Reserve Military Aeronaut which
indicates he was in Observation Balloons. Let me see what I can find on
the JSSaundun France.

Just a long-shot, hoping someone amongst our group knows a lot more
about
matters military than I do.
I have a letter, dated 22 Nov 1918, from a 2nd Lieutenant over in France.
I'm not entirely sure I'm reading all of the handwriting correctly, but
I'm trying to find out what these various things mean in hopes of
obtaining information about what became of him (since I'm not having much
luck with the censuses).
He speaks of the Armistice having been signed and that while he is glad
it's all over, he regrets not having been able to take part after all his
long training....that he doesn't know when he'll return home, but says
there are so very many men over there who have been there for such a long
time that he thinks they should get to go home first.
He also mentions that he had landed in England (doesn't say when)....but
that he did not have the chance to go down in Cornwall to find relatives.
He provides his mailing address to the recipient as:
2nd Lieut. ____ (his name) R.M.A.
Air Service A.P.O. 724
American E. F. France
However, at the beginning of his letter, up at the top, it reads
"JSSaundun (?) France"
(or perhaps that might be an "I" before the SS, rather than a "J" ? It
definitely does NOT look like a "U").
Furthermore, a subsequent Christmas card he mailed simply lists his rank
(2nd Lieut.) and "U.S. Army."
What was the "R.M.A." about? And does anyone know what the "JSSaundun"
might have been? I may be misreading the handwriting on this part, so if
you've any idea what it might correctly be, that would be wonderful.
Thanks very much to anyone who might shed some light that could enable me
to learn more about his service and perhaps what became of him.
