I think that this is a problem just because of the cost. Anyone can get a
will copied from the NC Archives for less money. A search request to
the archives for NC residents is free and for non-residents the fee is $8,
plus the cost of copies. Since most wills are usually a couple of pages,
ordering from the archives is about thirteen dollars less for residents
and five dollars less for non-residents. While in this case, a person is
getting a transcription of the will, original records are usually best. I
think that the Moore CC should put a link to the Archives next to
the Moore Co. wills for sale page, so that users are informed of the other
better and cheaper alternative for obtaining a will, and to prevent the
appearance that the CC is promoting the more expensive method of
obtaining a will.

I, frankly, never understood the problem with Dale Deason putting up

NCGenWeb charging $10 for wills, well, that is a questionable policy, even
to me so I thought I'd better ask.
See
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/9783/willA.html :
To order a will simply e-mail LookUp of Moore County, and let them know
which one you want. They are $10 each, and postage is $5. Please make checks
payable to LookUp of Moore County. PO Box 416, Carthage, NC 28327. Your Will
will be mailed to you on a floppy disk, as soon as we receive your check or
money order.
Since when did we sell lookups and information?
