Children of RootsWeb:
Has anybody filed a complaint to anybody about the
ncgenweb.org domain name
being used? It IS getting established as a home for gen societies. Here is
Wilson County Gen Soc announcing on their list Horace's new web site:

Subject: New genweb site
Many of our WCGS and egroup members are aware of the
recent change in the US and NC genweb program. Rootsweb, the
parent organization, sold out to commercial genealogical interests,
and now your every contact with any part of that vast group is recorded,
logged and made available to lots of commercial sources.
Anyone working in genealogy who uses any part of the
rootsweb empire has now become a "profit unit" for big genealogy.
Our ever-faithful mentor, Horace Peele, has taked it upon
himself (and on his bank account too) to set up a rival organization for
the
sharing of genealogical information between and by NON-PROFIT
organizations such as WCGS.
Visit the new site to see for yourself ...

This is a completely new, legal site. Please urge your
local society to sign on to keep genealogy in the hands of those
who use it for personal entertainment, not for the enrichment of
large corporations. Remember ... Family Tree Maker, for example,
is owned by Mattel, the creator of the Barbie Doll. Anything else
you need to know today?
