Well, we know from the way they have treated
me that correctness doesn't matter to them.
I have heard nothing from them about Sylverster
Ott. Money is such a big thing with them that
correctness just doesn't count.
There's allot of that in the world. The daytime
producer at ABC has messed with the Soaps so
much it is like watching paint dry. He thinks it
will bring them money. But it won't because he
is also destroying their best male lead.

Subject: [NC-DISCUSS] Re: Ancestry and WFT changes
I copied both the following messages from other lists and then asked for and was granted
permission to repost since I think it is something that might be of general interest to
anyone who has posted their family information on WFT at Rootsweb or Ancestry World Tree.
I am personally disturbed about this since all my family data has been reposted, without
permission, by third parties to both sites. Sadly, the same people who posted my gedcoms
never think of rechecking to pick up corrections and I have even been told that I should
correct my data and the source for the "corrections" is my own data with my own
mistakes that were posted without permission. Sadly, I can not now keep
Ancestry.com from
claiming the right to continue to republish the incorrect data, to say nothing of the fact
they are making it a paid service. I did voice my opinion via the feedback form on
Ancestry.com.

If you have submitted a family tree to
Ancestry.com you should know of
the change about to be implemented by them. According to another message the data
>will still be available for free but will also be included in the paid service. The
explanation is included below.
The Family Trees that have been donated to Ancestry for free distribution to
other researchers are about to be sold by subscription: the OneWorldTree
Preview cost will be $49.95 for 14 months. If you'd prefer that your information
not be sold there is a link below which will take you a set of instructions on
opting out by deleting your tree.
After clicking on the link and arriving at the page, click on "Whats a
preview?" near the top of the page.
Read thoroughly and then click on "View our checklist" (which appears on #3).
Among other things you will see the following sentence:
"If for any reason you do not want your tree to be part of the new
OneWorldTree service, you must delete it from the Ancestry World Tree database by
tentatively May 12, 2004."scary!
This is a response posted to another list which is reposted with permission:
A response to your Help Desk message, "One World Tree," of Mon, 3 May 2004,
at 11:15 a.m. follows:
-------------------------
Trees uploaded to either side (RW/Ancestry) are visible from both sides.
Ancestry is *not* charging for access or selling trees: access will remain
free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been.
What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search
engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually
or browse the trees for free the same way they always have.
Think of it like a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you
look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. That's
essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human.
