Are the list given free to the Project, or does Rw have a price called
censorship.
Will Rw cause the Project to lose the support of volunteers who are not
allowed to speak their mind?

Subject: [I Was Wondering
Hi again,
I was wondering ... HAVE there REALLY been volunteers of the USGenWeb
that have been banned from lists???? You know, I've heard from another
person that has also been banned .... Is This REALLY True??
I just can't imagine VOLUNTEERS being banned because they have "voiced"
an opinion or made a statement regarding an activity of a group .. say
like from Usgenweb or Rootsweb lists.
So, would someone explain this cause I really think that your group may
not acquire new volunteers if people find out how they are treated here,
and people will find out.
Have a Great Day!
Kayla

Hi All,
I received the below message from a friend that I have met online while
doing my own genealogy and history. She has told me about "some" of the
good things that is going on in the genealogy community and I thought I
would check out the USGenWeb AND other groups to see which I would most
like to be associated with.....Is there a problem within the inner
circles of the USGenWeb? Why are people being treated in this way? Are
the people that volunteer their time not being "allowed" to speak their
mind? Isn't there a little something called Freedom of Speech here? Well
anyway, I'm just trying to figure out IF I want to volunteer my time
.... maybe I'll just look elsewhere......here's the message folks:
------------
Kayla: This is to inform you that if you speak out against Rootsweb or
say anything at all that Brian Leverich can construe as being against
Rootsweb he will ban you from posting to all RW mailing lists.
I made a comment last week regarding the ballots not coming out on time
by saying, "Yeah, again RW is at least a day later and a dollar short."
It must have hit a very big nerve because now I can't post to ALL, my
required ILLINOIS CC list or any other RW LISTS.
I certainly don't care because most of my lists are NOT on RW anyway and
never will be BUT what about those people who are members of the surname
lists. If they disagree with RW, Brian Leverich or any thing that they
do they are "bleeped". The visitors are the ones who suffer.
Carol

Thank you for reading this....

G'day
I just received a private note from Teresa (merope). She states that she is
able to receive messages from any list to which she is subbed BUT cannot
post. Apparently she has been placed on a global RW reject list or some
sort. List moderators whom she has contacted deny such action on their
part.
I do not know any history or reason behind this situation. To my
knowledge
there has been no announcement of her being banned or for what reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------
Also:
Just Thought I would let you know, Brian has also
"requested" that no one forward anything from "The 4" to the
list. Therefore we should either find another list off of
Rootsweb or Use the Address List
=============================================
Kayla,
I am also one of the people that has been -apparently- unilaterally
banned
from posting to ANY Rootsweb lists. I cannot post to any county
mailing
lists, the -ALL list, the -DISCUSS list, the census project lists, or
the
bylaws committee list (to which I have recently been accepted as a
member). I also cannot vote in the ongoing election.
I have received no formal notification of this 'banning' from anyone on
RW's staff and have no idea what prompted this apparent action, as I
was
away from my computer for a few days. I publish a daily newsletter
that
is often critical of the the project's governing body and of
Rootsweb's
heavy influence in the project. Apparently this is the best they could
come up with to silence my voice.
I know personally of three other people who are in a similar position
at
this time.
Sincerely,
Teresa Lindquist
