The truth of the politics here, depend on who you are talking to. Every
story has three sides.
I can't claim to know the truth, but can share thought-provoking messages
whose basis has great import to the Project members as a whole.
Since this is the discuss list which was set up for those wishing to
participate in the politics of the Project, these messages I have sent are
pertinent.
The standards and Ethics motion will affect you directly. You may not care
today, but you may very well care tomorrow when laws created at the national
level affect North CArolina volunteers directly.
You think there is a turf war, why should there be a turf war in FREE
genealogy websites?
If genealogy is free, then why would we begrudge any other "turf" to present
online genealogy.
The more the merrier I say. I support ALL free online genealogy, don't you.
The other thing going on and what provoked the motion to create standards
and
Ethics laws to control the volunteers is the fact that the RW server blocked
4
of the Projects volunteers from participating in ANY of the list given by RW
to the Project for Project business. One list, the ALL list is provided for
in our Bylaws for the USGenWEb Project. This list is provided free by RW
server, but it seems they want to say which of our volunteers can
participate on it. That's it.

Hello,
I am a new subscriber to GenWeb lists, and as such, completely in the
dark
as to what these "fussy" messages are all about. It appears
to be a "turf
war", of sorts, and one that I believe should be kept private. I am not
interested in who said what to who and/or who is in charge of the list, the
site or whatever you are fighting over.
Each time I read one of these "messages", I get the impression that
someone
must be "making out" in come way that others are envious of.
I find it sad
that adults, who, apparently, started out with "family" in mind are now
spending precious time, both yours and others, in a "territorial" spat.
So, either tell us what is "truly" going on or keep it to yourselves. I
live
in the Metropolitan Washington Area and, frankly, I read and hear
about
"political" bickering enough without encountering it here.
Sincerely,
Sarah Ruth of Bowie, Maryland
