Nola,
I certainly intend no personal offense to you, but as an "entity," the
NCGenWeb Project only exists in cyberspace. We have no manuscript
archival facility nor expertise. As I'm sure you know, when it comes to
manuscripts, the fewer mailings and handlings, the better.
I am simply far more comfortable with forwarding any offers such Ms.
Lewis' directly to those who have the facilities and expertise to handle
them properly. Such repositories oversee every step of the process,
including the packing and shipping of the materials, and often go pick
them up rather than subject them to packing and shipping.
As I'm sure you're aware, even "insured" packages become lost, destroyed
or injured in transit. Repositories such as NC Archives take specific
preventive steps to ensure the safety of the manuscripts. I believe they
also are in a better position to make decisions concerning the value of
keeping a collection of papers intact, vs. being split up and housed in
multiple repositories.
I know your intentions are good, but my personal feeling is that
curators should be contacted and should handle this. Heaven forbid you
have an unexpected house fire or something while they're in your
possession.

Sandy,
I promise that I will give the material to the archives. I thought I
would go through and see what might be worthwhile for any of the
NCGenWeb pages but they will not be lost. Naturally you know that what
caught my eye was the Kerr name. I have Caswell Co.where early members
of the Kerr family lived in addition to Warren. I wondered if she
might have done any work on the Kerr family in England for Ms. Kerr or
corresponded with Ms. Kerr.
Some of the listed items seemed to have wider appeal and if so, I may
put them in the Clayton Library here in Houston. In any event they
will be preserved.
Nola
