All
I have found a webpage on-line, that lists slaveholders of the 1860 Census
by county, and an 1870 Surname list.
Tom Blake, is the individual posting this information on-line. It is worth
a look. I received permission to put this data on-line on my county site
from Tom..
Might check it out at

For your protection, be sure each page on your county has a logo and link back to your home page.
Welcome Bettie !

Just want to let everyone know that there is a FREE workshop on Cherokee research on Sept 20 in Waynesville, NC. That's right, FREE, but don't let the fact that it's free fool you into thinking it's not good!! <g> The keynote speaker is Dr. William Anderson, Prof of History at WCU, who teaches the Cherokee History courses. He is quite well known in Cherokee circles and very highly respected by the tribe. Also speaking will be Dr. Margaret Bender, who worked with Mr. Bushyhead on the Cherokee language; Marina Catt, who is with the library on the reservation and who will tell us what is available on the reservation for research; and Dr. Betty J. Dugan will speak on the problems a Cherokee encounters in living off the reservation in a white man's world. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society and the Haywood County Genealogical Society. There are directions and a map on our website.
Again, the only cost will be lunch, which we are having catered. The cost is $10 for the lunch. If you do wish to have lunch with us, we need to know by Sept 15. You may pay at the door. If you chose to eat elsewhere, there are a number of cafes and fastfood restaurants within a 10 minute drive. You may get a registration form and see details at http://www.obcgs.com/fallwrkshp.htm. Would appreciate it if those of you who feel there may interest from your county would post this or create a link to that site. Thanks!!
