Hello everyone! I just subscribed to this list and thought I would
introduce myself. I live in Durham County, and am researching my husband's
multiple lines that were in Durham, Wake and Granville Counties, so if I can
answer any geographical questions, I will be happy to.
The surnames I have focused on so far include KING, LAYTON, ROSS, NORWOOD,
MEDLIN(G), HUTSPETH/HEDGEPETH/HEDGPETH/HEDGPATH, ADAMS, ONEAL, NICHOLS,
STRICKLAND, and some on other collateral lines as well.
I wanted to offer to anyone who needs it that I am near Maplewood and
Woodlawn cemeteries, and I can get information and possibly pictures for
anyone who would like that. I also have access to a lot of good information
at our local library if someone is stuck and needs a push.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has relatives at Woodlawn, as
they have been taken over by a business in the last few years, and I have
not been happy with the way that they have been neglecting upkeep of the
graves. I would be happy to check on graves for anyone.
BTW, I found out that Pine Hill is the older section of Woodlawn, so if
anyone has mention of ancestors buried at "Pine Hill", it is now called
Woodlawn. I had a death certificate from the 1920s that gave that as the
location, and spoke with someone at a funeral home who told me... Lucky for
I guess that is it for now. If anyone wants to ask me questions, I will try
to help, and if any of the surnames look familiar, please let me know!
