I got this from another list! If you're like me, this will apply to
Kinsman (original poem by Wayne Hand, 1999)
Alas, my elusive kinsman
You've led me quite a chase
I thought I'd found your courthouse
But the Yankees burned the place.
You always kept your bags packed
Although you had no fame, and
Just for the fun of it
Twice you changed your name.
You never owed any man, or
At least I found no bills
In spite of eleven offspring
You never left a will.
They say our name's from Europe
Came state side on a ship
Either they lost the passenger list
Or granddad gave them the slip.
I'm the only one looking
Another searcher I can't find
I pray (maybe that's his fathers name)
As I go out of my mind.
They said you had a headstone
In a shady plot
I've been there twenty times, and
Can't even find the lot.
You never wrote a letter
Your Bible we can't find
It's probably in some attic
Out of sight and out of mind.
You first married a .....Smith
And just to set the tone
The other four were Sarahs
And everyone a Jones.
You cost me two fortunes
One of which I did not have
My wife, my house and Fido
God, how I miss that yellow lab.
But somewhere you slipped up,
Ole Boy, Somewhere you left a track
And if I don't find you this year
Well...... Next year I'll be back!
I am researching the following surnames in Orange County prior to 1800 and in
counties which were formed from parts of Orange:
Gregson, Briles, Martin, FitzJarrell (Jarrell), Jenkins, Cude (Coude).
Especially interested in finding information on a Martin who married Amos
Gregson. Was she Mary b.1787, daughter of John Martin b. 1756 in Orange Co.
Help, anyone? Willing to share info I have on the above families.
Maplewood is in Durham (city) and is bordered by Maplewood Ave., Kent St.
University Dr. and Chapel Hill Rd. For all practical purposes, it's in the
center of Durham (or close enough to give you a good idea)It is city owned.
For the life of me (no pun intended) I cannot remember where Oak Grove is
right now. Embarrassing, since my grandmother is buried there! It's in
Durham Co though, and may even be in the city limits still.
I don't know the others.
Could someone please tell me the locations/address of the
Mullins Cemetary-Madisonvill, Monroe County, TN
Clifton Baptist Church Cemetary-Vonore, Monroe County, TN
Pine Hill United Methodist Church Cemetary-Randolph County, NC
Maplewood Cemetary-Durham County, NC
Oak Grove Baptist Cemetary-Durham or Wake County, NC
McMinn Memory Gardens-Athens, McMinn County, TN
Thanks for your help!!
Am working on the above names, all in Orange and Durham Co.
In the Woods line, I am stymied on the parents and siblings of William Woods
b Feb 12, 1835 who married Martha L. Clinton in January 1858.
In the Clinton line, I am seeking the parents of Jesse Clinton, father of
Martha and Mary Clinton. Jesse was born 1797 in NC, probably Orange Co.,
and married Rachel Vickers in 1825
On the Horner side, Elizabeth Virginia Horner, wife of Moses Carrington is a
complete mystery to me. Bettie Horner (Carrington) was born in 1858 and
died in 1929. She and Moses are buried at Mt Sylvan on Roxboro Rd.
There are other family names that married into the Woods in the early 1900s
that I am interested in pursuing because I believe there to be a
long-standing connection among them and the Woods. Among these are Latta,
Dickerson, Chambers, Chamblee and Pool.
This is the familys I am looking for is NC.
My page is in my sig.
I have a number of other family names I can send but don't know
anything about them.I got them from a family reunion list.
If you would like it I will send it.
I am researching Baldwin, Carroll, Evans, Roberts, and White. my
Evans and Roberts are from the Northern Durham/Orange County
area. Here's the Evans/Roberts part of my line. Im especially
interesting in acquiring information on the ancestors of John
Lawson Evans. I've gotten as much information on that part of the
family from his living children as they could remember which was
next to nothing. They only knew the Roberts side. I have much
more information on descendants of John Lawson's other sons that
I did not list here. If we're kin please contact me.

Thanks in advance for any help.
This is my MAIN surname and my biggest brickwall. Daivd, George, Thomas and
Mary Ann MORTON were born somewhere between 1800-1808 in NC. They are in
Anderson/Knox County, TN by 1816. No one has been able to find parents to
attach them to. Thanks so much. Nina

I sent out a plea to my other lists for others to join our list. here is
one of the replies to that query with my original message following.
You mention that the list doesn't have a list master. If any of you are
interested, just go to rootsweb.com and check on the adoptable county lists
and apply for it. I did that with several surname lists, guess they work
the same as the county lists, and they accepted my offer for five or six
different ones. They'll let you know in a couple of days and send you the
password so you can access your list. There's nothing to keeping it up
unless it's a huge list.

Anyone working on the Horner family in Orange/Durham? My Greatgrandmother
was Elizabeth Virginia Horner and married Moses Williams Carrington. They
are buried at Mt. Sylvan Methodist Church on Roxboro Rd. in Durham. I
haven't been able to get any leads on her parents or potential siblings yet.
(Katherine, are we the only ones here?)
Read this everyone. The Civil War Medals sight that I posted the
other day has helped at least one person track down an ancestor,
so everyone please post any sites of interest that may help another

Subject: Re: [TNMARION] Civil War Medals
The subject link turned out to be of interest. My mother's side of the
family, from WV fought on the union side. The county the family came from
had about an equal number of union and C. S. A. volunteers. My great grand
father had not collected his medal from the state, I plan to.
Thanks again, you have found some interesting and useful links.
