You are missing my point. The SC does not have access on RW. The SC does
not have access on
. The NC is not the SC. The NC is part
of the technical team for the USGenWeb. Webmasters/tech teams,, whatever
you want to call it have access as they should. The SC should have at arms
length access to the counties, whether through tech or because the county
is on a different server. Having all the folders of the counties in the
login area for the state pages may be done elsewhere but I would guess
there is more than the SC with access to that area in those locations.
Even if they don't, I could care less as it is not MTGenWeb. As my mother
always preached to me, just because someone jumps off a cliff do you have
to jump off a cliff? I have never been one to do something just because
someone else does it. Because of how we are set up, we don't have a
technical team for the state, we share Judy and Dennis with others.
As I said I have no problem with you having access to my counties but I
will also make sure I have a RW version in case of accidental deletion.

Karen,
You are correct about the way Judy's server is set up and from prior
experience that is normal. You are also correct about theusgenweb.orgserver and Rootsweb
but on the
usgenweb.org server, the NC has access to all sites and on RootsWeb,
someone there has access information to all sites.
I will correct the URL for Glacier County right now.

My tardy moves are because I don't feel that the SC should have full access
to county sites and that is how it is set up on Judy's server, currently
.com but to become .org. I was told that all server managers have access
to a county file and yes that is correct, server managers, NOT the standing
SC. As I wrote to both you and Judy, I have absolutely no problem with you
having access to my counties as I know you, however that is setting up a
dangerous precedent for the future.
When we use RW, the SC does not have access to my county, only RW does.
When we use
mtgenweb.org on
theusgenweb.org server, again the SC does not
have access to my county files. It is my belief that for the good of this
project in the future, the SC should set up the state site as a subfile of
mtgenweb.org/com. I am sure Dennis (tech for Judy) can set up an
automatic
directive so that someone typing
mtgenweb.org, will get to that sub file.
That is beyond my technical capabilities but I am sure Dennis can handle
that.
I am installing a new modem today so hopefully I can return to my IP and be
able to FTP to current .org. I had to bridge to my router and that changed
my IP so prevents me from FTPing currently.
As a side note I believe that Cascade is located on John's own server at
montanagenweb.com so he will be unaffected by the move. Also I noticed
that at some point in the last month the link to Glacier was changed to
.com. Glacier disappeared on .com when they had to change the host and I
haven't uploaded again in light of the questions. Please change back to
glacier.mtgenweb.org until I am sure where I am going to be with Glacier.
Thank you,
Karen
