IOWA FALLS-Robert C. Roozen, 77, of Iowa Falls, died Tuesday, February 28,
2006, at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at
the St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls. Military rites provided by the
Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral
Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Bob was born on Jan. 17, 1929, in Valier, Mont., the youngest son of Dutch
immigrants Garret and Catherine (DeRoy) Roozen. He graduated from Mapleton
High School in Mapleton, Minn., and attended Mankato State University. Bob
served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 until 1948, followed by a lifetime career
as a CPO in the Naval Reserve. Bob married Darlene Harty on July 19, 1952,
in Mankato, Minn. He was retired from Corn Belt Power Co-op where he was a
line foreman. Bob was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church, Hyman-Peavey
American Legion Post No. 188, and the Meadow Hills Golf Course. Much of
Bob's spare time was spent doing carpentry, building things for the people
he loved. Fishing in Northern Minnesota, golfing and yard work were other
favorite pastimes. Bob also loved winters spent in Arizona with Darlene.
Bob is survived by his wife, Darlene; three daughters, Kathy Sabota and
husband Ken of St. Paul, Minn., and their sons, Bobby and Jesse, Judy Roozen
of Fayetteville, N.C., and her son, Miles, and Robbie Roozen of St. Paul and
her son, Zachary; three brothers, Tony Roozen and Joey Roozen of Bremerton,
Wash., and Peter Roozen of St. Paul; two sisters, Lavinia Schwab of
Princeton, Minn., and Mary Goracke of Elk River, Minn.; several
sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Joseph; an infant
daughter, Jane; and a daughter, Janet Pomeroy. As a husband, father,
grandfather and friend, Bob was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
