I have a couple of, perhaps, rhetorical questions concerning Ancestry and U.S. GenWeb. Is
there any kind of contract tieing GenWeb to Ancestry? Are the links between GenWeb and
RootsWeb such that it would be difficult for the two (as much as I would hate to see that
happen) go their separate ways? Would it be possible for GenWeb to find a different entity
such as a university or D.A.R. (non-profit) willing to provide computer space?
I know that more universities are starting to digitize historical newspapers. It would
also be a big hassle to move all the U.S. GenWeb information to a different computer.
However, as long as GenWeb is involved with Ancestry (or until Ancestry folks have some
kind of epiphany <g>) there are going to be problems. It would be nice to be
welcomed and recognized as an asset not to be taken advantage of. Enough said by me.
