I know there has been some dissention between Ancestry and LDS. I don't claim to even
coming close to understanding what it is all about. I do think that Ancestry has taken a
major hit by losing LDS support in whatever form it was in. A couple of years ago I
attended a RootsWeb meeting at the National Genealogical Society Conference and came away
feeling that Ancestry treated RootsWeb like a "poor" cousin. The RootsWeb people
were great. I also feel some animosity by the way I have been treated by Ancestry and
their fee structure. They have, however, been generous in granting RootsWeb computer space
(or whatever you call it) and that has a good deal of monetary value. The original
agreement when RootsWeb came under the Ancestry umbrella was that it would always be free.
By placing Ancestry along side RootsWeb begins to cloud that difference and that does not
please me.
I feel RootsWeb is a classier act and Ancestry now needs RootsWeb. I'd prefer Ancestry
stay completely separated from RootsWeb but what happens, happens.
