Hi fellow county coordinators.
I hope you have time to read the following proposed change in the fees
and rules for obtaining vital records in Montana. The clerks and
recorders around my area are against the fees, the reasoning being that
many people they deal with do not have the money, and the extra money is
going to go to update the computerized vital records system in Helena,
and that agency, the clerks say, should have increased their budget and
not create a back door tax, via a user fee, on residents. Whatever you
feel about it, try to take the time to read these 20 pages on the Web.
The deadline for comments is Dec. 6.
http://sos.mt.gov/ARM/Register/archives/MAR2007/MAR07-21.pdf
go to pages 1768 to 1789.
Especially read:
37.8.116 FEES FOR CERTIFICATION, FILE SEARCHES, AND OTHER
VITAL RECORDS SERVICES
37.8.126 ACCESS TO RECORDS
37.8.127 APPLICATION FOR COPY OF VITAL RECORD
