Good Morning everyone,
I feel you all should know what has gone on the past couple days as we
are all in this together and the lack of communication in the past has
caused me a few stumbles as SC. If we all know the score then the
future will work much more smoothly.
I am sure some of you know how this works but I am going to explain
for everyone so we are all on the same page. Nathan had purchased the
domains of
mtgenweb.org and
mtgenweb.com many years ago using a
service called
domainpeople.com. When he left the project he had paid
for another year of the registration (9.95 for each domain) and turned
it over to me. Apparently in the turnover they lost my credit card
number supposedly a dynamic thing they could not see, please believe
me when I say I only understand part of this system.
Our domains were supposed to renew on Jan 24th. Two days ago I went
in and saw that several fields were blank one of which was a credit
card. I entered the missing information and a credit card. I then
called them as there was no renew button. According to the first
person I talked to I would have to pay 24.95 per domain but I could
get it for 9.95 if I called the reseller they had placed it with. Lie
from Chris with a heavy accent.
Called the reseller Devnet and talked to Linda who spoke english as
her primary language. (yes I am apparently prejudice). She informed
me that no she could not renew the domain as it was still with
Domainpeople, said it was already renewed according to her computer
but when she checked further another screen said it had expired 1/24.
She informed me that she could not sell a domain name for 3 months
after it expired. All the info from Chris was not true. So back to
Domainpeople I went.
Got ahold of a female that spoke a little better English, explained
the problem, told her we were not paying $24.95 per domain as
extortion money on the renewal. She said she could renew them for
$9.95 each if I just give her the credit card information which I did.
I asked her if they would run it through for $24.95 on the web site
since they had my number and she insisted no. How long will this
take? I asked. She said give it two hours. At that point I wrote to
all of you. She gave me a case #.
After 4 hours we were still not online. I call Domainpeople and
somehow got to technical support. This gentleman was in Vancouver and
spoke excellent English. He informed me that they are not supposed to
give out a time period because it varies too much. I asked him where
was a talking to earlier when I got all the lies and I did consider
what I was told lies. He said offshore. I said, I take it you are
onshore and he said yes. He could find no case number using the
number I was given. He said it was still on hold even though I told
him the gal I talked to had me hold while she ran my card. I also
told him I didn't believe it would take hours or up to a day to put a
credit card through. It was at that point I found I apparently was
talking to BULGARIA. He said give it 24 hours and then call back if
it still wasn't taken care of. I am calling Bulgaria in a moment and
speaking to a supervisor and then calling and talking to an onshore
supervisor. I am doing this because I can't stand liars and I really
don't care for the offshore outsourcing especially when you cannot
trust what they say and I doubt there is anything that can be done
about their lies since they are not in America.
We are back online but aside from letting you all know what has gone
on, I am informing you that our domain registration will be
transferred to a trustworthy organization. I don't know how this
Domainpeople was chosen originally but I would bet Nathan did not talk
to anyone in Bulgaria.
Cleve I am not sure what you meant by your emails. Yellowstone is
back online. I would like everyone to test their FTP ability in the
next 48 hours as I want to know if everyone can get online. If not I
will be extremely disappointed that we are still in a problem state
and will take further action with the NC.
Thanks everyone. You don't have to respond to this email about the
domain, I just wanted to make sure everyone knows what happened and my
plain to protect our domain names in the future.
Have a great day,
Karen
