Hi All,
Those of you who choose to subscribe to USGenWeb-All are probably aware of
the ongoing 'war' between a few SC's, CC's and Tim Stowell, the NC. If
not, please don't expect me to explain it all to you! <LOL>
Seriously, it is confusing even to those of us who have read the hundreds
of emails on the subject. The basic premise concerns the Census Project.
There have been so many letters written to the SC list over the past
months, and I've waited patiently for the issue to be resolved so that I
could pass the info on to you. The more letters that get posted, the
meaner they are, so it's really never reached a point where I can make a
clear determination.
The riff between the Census Project and USGenWeb developed - I think that
the Project was refusing to communicate with the NC over some issues in
question, so our NC, Tim Stowell, issued a statement de-linking the
Project from the USGenWeb Project's main page. (his note to that effect is
below) A major battle ensued with some people saying Tim had no right to
do that without the Advisory Board's approval. So, a motion was made to
bring it before the Advisory Board and they voted to de-link the census
project because of the problems. I'm not sure, but I think that the Census
Project became incorporated as a separate entity and perhaps was refusing
to follow some of the USGenWeb Project guidelines.... or something. <G>.
But, the stink goes on. Every day there are letters from the same people
who are basically saying the same things over and over. Evidently, (and
don't quote me on this), several have instigated sites condemning Tim
Stowell and a vew have put up black USGenWeb logos on their pages in
protest. It is my opinion only... so please check it out yourself...
that Fred Smoot, who has used this and other issues in the past after his
failed attempt at being NC last election, is really using this issue to
promote his run again next election. Again, check it out for yourself,
please!!!
When I opened up my SC digest this a.m. and yet another note from Fred was
critisising Tim's selection for the new "ombudsman" position in USGenWeb,
and using Webster's to define the word, I'd "had" it with the constant
negativism and bickering. I really despise ongoing battles like this...
primarily because they tend to set aside the true purpose of our project
and the hard work all of you are doing.
So, I'll send a copy of my posting to the SC list to you separately.
Whether you agree or not then, you'll be informed of my opinion on the
struggle at hand.
Here's Tim Stowell's original de-linking notice:

Mr. Eason,
Executive Order 2000-E-1: Whereas your 'project' continues to be not in
good standing within the USGenWeb Project despite repeated requests to fix
your pages, does not answer mail in a timely manner, and has refused to
negotiate in good faith for a merger of the ACP and the CP, you are hereby
given notice that your project has been delinked from the National web site.
I regret that this must be done but I believe it to be the best for the
USGenWeb Project as a whole. I do this within my rights as National
Coordinator - under my day to day administration duties.
The Webmaster has had no part in this - as I have done this myself. Should
the Board request further details of the Census Project's actions or lack
thereof as coordinated by Mr. Eason, they will be provided.

My posting follows in the next email.
