I can not speak for AT&T DSL service specifically. I have heard of
problems with the service (in general) though. From experience, I can
tell you that my cable modem is down more then I care! So bad, that I
still keep my AT&T WorldNet service (at the $6.95 - 100 hours a month rate).
On paper, DSL service is better then Cable Modem service. In case you
don't know, a 256K cable modem vs a 256k DSL service (using simple
number here) means that with the Cable modem, you get 256K service that
you share with everyone else in your neighborhood. With DSL, you get
dedicated 256K service from you out to the internet.
This is also better for security reasons. If you are a hacker, all you
have to do is break into the neighborhood Cable Modem Hud and spread a
virus once and infect lots of people. With DSL, you have to infect each
person.
There is my two cents on the subject. Bottom line is that as soon as
DSL is cost effective ($75 a month with a $300 install right now) I am
switching over.

Seems to me that recently I've heard a couple of major complaints
about
AT&T Cable Modem service. Since we don't have DSL here yet, I've
considered signing up for the 1.5-3 mg service. (Be being able to get
rid of my second phone line and cut way down on my server hours, the
monthly charge would be almost identical).
So, just asking for input here -- do any of you have this service and
have you found it reliable or unreliable? The high speed sure does sound
nicer than the max 28 or so I get! <G>
Thanks a million.
