Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

This sentence (or something similar) can be added after the last sentence
in the paragraph about ACC's:
Assistant County Coordinators will be approved by the State Coordinator
using the same criteria as for CC's.

I am speaking of Google Ad Sense or many of the advertising companies that
pay to have links on your page. I am not opposed to a dedicated page for
genealogists for hire whether it is the CC or an outside group. Perhaps we
can change it to profiting by third party advertisers?

Re: [MTGEN] Revised Policy Page
by Shirley Cullum
I agree with the additions of #3 for grounds to remove a CC. However, a CC
who is a genealogist for hire is allowed to have his/her information on an
inside page along with other paid genealogists.
The conclusion hadn't been discussed before and this is a good time to do
it. I agree that the sentence:
"This is a volunteer position and as such mandates as written above are
only relevant
if the membership agrees to abide by them." should be removed
ACC's must be approved by SC's and give home address and a phone number
(per USGenWeb rules) and are members of the project with full voting
rights. I know that previous ACC's were allowed to be added by CC's as they
wished but I have required MTGenWeb ACC's to agree to follow the rules of
the project and provide contact information before adding them to the
membership list.

Re: [MTGEN] MTGenWeb Policy Page
by Karen De Groote
I don't like may either because it means might or means having permission.
'Will" turn it over would be my preference. However all sites on RW are
the property of the person who is CC. The SC cannot take over a RW county
site (source of numerous problems in the national project) so perhaps some
wording should be added to make it read, "in the event a CC chooses to
leave, they will agree to give the website back to the project for future
reassignment. All contributed material will remain the copyright of the
contributor." Then when a CC joins the project they can agree to this if
they leave. This still allows them to take down stuff they put up
personally although only the most vindictive sorts would do that. I would
be happy to agree to such a statement at any time for any county.

Re: [MTGEN] Proposed New Policy Page
by Shirley Cullum
James,
I wasn't sure the color coding would come through to the list but thought I
would give it a try.
As an FYI here are the changes I color coded:
In #3, change copyright notice on every page of the county website to
copyright notice on the main page,
and remove the entire paragraph beginning with "Unless indicated
otherwise..."
In #4, Change the first sentence to: All website contents remain the
property of the county website for future CC's to use unless the
contributor requests its removal. (removing the 2nd part of the sentence)
Remove the 2nd sentence beginning "All material contributed..."
3. Every county must include a copyright notice on the main page. The
following copyright notice is an example only of common copyright
statements used on the internet (you may choose your own wording).
© Current Year. Host Name. All Rights Reserved.
Unless indicated otherwise in a particular page carrying this copyright
notice, permission to use, copy and distribute documents and related
graphics delivered from this World Wide Web server (url of county site) for
non-commercial uses is hereby granted, provided that the above copyright
notice appears in all copies and that both that copyright notice and this
permission notice appear. All other rights reserved. Host Name disclaims
all warranties with regard to this information. The information described
herein is provided as is without warranty of any kind, either express or
implied.
4. All website contents remain the property of the county website for
future CC's to use unless the contributor requests its removal and the
MTGenWeb maintains no rights to any materials on any project website. All
material contributed to the website by someone other than the webmaster
should contain a copyright notice granting permission to publicly display
the material from the author of said material. Any material that is
copyrighted and published without permission from the author must be
removed immediately.

Shirley, on the policy page......the second paragraph below this last
sentence. Doesn't make sense to me.

<<
*Resignation of a Coordinator*
In the event that a coordinator no longer wishes to volunteer with this
project, notice must be given to the SC as soon as possible. The SC will
announce to the mail list that the coordinator is stepping down and will
offer the county up for adoption to the membership first.
If no existing County Coordinator is interested in adopting the orphaned
county, a notice will be placed on the county index and a new host will be
recruited to fill the vacancy. The outgoing coordinator may choose to
remain with the project until a new coordinator is found or may choose to
step down immediately. If they choose to step down immediately and are will
to donate the existing website to the MTGenWeb Project

I looked at both pages and the "found" page (policy.html) is much better in
terms of how the project should function. Shirley and Karen's suggestions
are spot on and I think making the changes would make sense.

With the proposed changes, the new page is good for the project and protects both the CC and the state project.

Re: [MTGEN] MTGenWeb Policy Page
by Karen De Groote
Rather than host name, which could be construed as the property of the
hosting service the site is on, can we use a different term? I would
prefer as ex: Glacier County MTGenWeb project That way both the county
and state project are covered.
For those of us who have been around a while, the page that Shirley found
actually predates the currently used policy page. I cannot remember
exactly what happened in having both but the current page was added by
Kevin Haddenham. The "found" page was added to the site before Kevin was
elected. It is possible that we should have been using the page all along
when we were discussing rules and regulations for our project back then. I
don't remember every voting on our discussions but maybe it was informal?
I think you will find that the found policy page is both reasonable and
complete. I hope we can all support spiffing up this project with a solid
framework.
