The target date for county websites to be moved off theusgenweb.org server is April 15th. The state site will move after all counties have relocated.
If your counties are not on theusgenweb server, the move(s) will not affect you.

This mail list is mandatory for all volunteers of the project. It's purpose is to provide a method of relaying information to all CC's. It is also for use in handling project business, such as logo discussion, polls, sharing ideas and information for websites, and even some occasional chat. However, it is to be used with respect toward all members at all times. Failure to follow this simple rule will result in moderation of postings.

I've been trying to give this county up for years, and I said I'd stay
on until someone else was found.
But I'm done. This is a waste of my time and I don't need the level of
disrespect I've been shown today.
I quit.
Oh for Chrissake, not again. Here is the "authority" from the Secretary
of State that says you have to apply for permission.
> Montana’s Constitution makes the Secretary of State the
keeper of The Great Seal of the State of Montana. The law
requires permission from the Secretary of State’s office
for every use of the seal. As a general rule, that permission
is routinely given for most uses.

I would guess that if you want to find out how to apply, you should
probably write the damned Secretary of State. But you do have to apply
under the law.
I don't know how this escalated to this level of dispute, I suspect
someone is just trolling to get a response, and congratulations, you
did. Thanks for wasting my time. I'm done. I quit. I don't need this.
Find someone else to play mind-games with.

Of course, that's all that is needed - but the originator of the logo
should be the one to get permission for our society- if that logo is
selected. No big deal!

I agree we need to participate as a state. Maybe Suzanne's recommendation
of doing it on the state pages should be utilitized? As a state
participant, what does that mean? Do we have a quota to fill each week or
month? Can we ask non-CCs to help? I know that my concern was directing
the the resultant transcription to the correct county as that is what
researchers would like to find. We still don't know if it is okay to post
transcriptions within the MTGenWeb project. Shirley have they given you
any word on how a participating project participates?

I just learned something about the 1940 census that may explain their state
coordinator set up. Apparently the Census is set up by state then
enumeration district. No county. I wonder how hard it would be to figure
out the EDs in our county for 1940. In that way if we participate maybe we
can request EDs? Just a thought.

Shirley,
I'm weighing in on this late, but I do have my opinion, below. As a note, my spouse has volunteered to index for family search. They gave her other projects to work on first, to assess her abilities(School Records in PA, I think). It appears to work that FamilySearch has Manageable "Batches" of Data to be indexed. Joan says a "Batch" takes her about 30 minutes to complete. The batch can be saved if you can't complete it in a sitting. The indexing is then vetted by someone at FamilySearch. She describes the process as Very, Very User Friendly. Anyway - my response to the questionaire:

AS I UNDERSTAND IT, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE THE STATE, BUT NOT THE COUNTY. I BELIEVE THIS WOULD BE FAIR, IF WE (AS A STATE SOCIETY) CHOOSE TO BECOME A PARTICIPATING SOCIETY.

I am still trying to get answers that I did not have and no decision has been reached.

I've been kid of busy lately so don't know what was decided on this.
I am with Karen...I'd like to see answers to the questions she asked. I would
be willing to to participate in indexing if it were for my counties, and
possibly for other Montana counties if needed.
If this has already been decided, I have missed seeing it. Please advise
if/when information is available.
Suzanne
