Hello County Coordinators,
It is long past time for me to step down as State Coordinator. I have many
personal things going on in my life and have for some time which is why
Nancy was asked to handle the reins. In addition I was in a bad accident
in November which has caused me additional health problems. I am sorry
that I cannot perform my duties as state coordinator. The domain name is
on hold right now and I have asked the national coordinator how we get the
name from the people that have it right now. I am waiting to hear back on
this.
As MTGenWeb members you have the choice of several different ways to hold
an election. The AB can have a couple persons conduct an election, the
Election Committee can do it, or it can be done very informally on this
list. What is most important is someone or two volunteer for the position
of state coordinator. It would be helpful that the state coordinator has
some technical knowledge of websites in addition to knowledge of
parlimentary procedure.
I would be happy to be an advisor to anyone that wishes to take on the role
and I will continue on as a county coordinator until such time as someone
else might want my counties.
Thanks for the many years of working with all of you, it has been a
pleasure through all the ups and downs. Please feel free to ask questions
and discuss this. I will do my best to get everything resolved in a quick
and positive manner.
Karen
Thanks Jim.
Those numbers work for me:
<http://96.0.215.108/>
goes to what looks current to me (but I don't monitor it much! :-)
(I don't know how to do a 'whois' but recall seeing it somewhere long
ago! :-)
As for the auction, if it sells, who gets the money? :-)
They can't sell the copyrights to use it, surely?
If left to me, I'd just let them try to sell it and move on without.
but I don't seek nor understand public opinion. :-)
Ben

Hi Jim and everyone,
The domain name is currently being held hostage and the NC has been
involved. The sites are still on the server, not to worry.
I will be sending another email shortly with notifications for everyone so
talk to you again soon,
Karen

$50 sounds like absolute highway robbery.
My cousin registered a domain name last summer for a mere $4.99.
The prices are a total mystery to me.
I suspect somebody thinks the name is important to somebody,
but I am not sure, having avoided all that stuff.
That should only be if somebody else wanted to take it over.
As for the DNS numbers, Umm I don't know.
Do you have contact with the server admin?
(we still don't even know what server it is.)
I guess it would mean one more change of urls for the counties &c.
but would it be as well to drop the cool name and let the
computers direct things to where it is? Truly, how many type
directly "mtgenweb" instead of using a link from somewhere?
Ben & Carla
P.S. Last, but not least:
Ditto on the Thanks and Condolences
for your kind service and misfortune.

What numbers did you use, and when, and where did you get them?
Ben
Well, your message made it here, but trying to see the state GenWeb
site renders:
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.mtgenweb.org/” because Safari
can’t find the server “www.mtgenweb.org”.
If the power goes out, we can't turn on a light to see what broke.
Maybe that's what's happening here? Isn't this about the time of
year the domain-name charge came due? I feel somebody's pain...
Can it be accessed by putting in the DNS numbers that bypass the need
for the text address to be served? I forget what those numbers were.
Our county works, of course, cuz its on our own server instead of the
genWeb one.

Yes, I misspoke, using the numerical URL does work.
