Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I vote YES! I list some paid researchers on the bottom of all my dozen or so
genweb sites. I put it on the bottom of the lookups and volunteers page with
a heading "Research for a Fee" I don't do research and people need a source
to turn to when they can't find what they need on the site. I have never had
a complaint yet. People don't have to contact them if they don't want to. On
all my websites I list a guy who does research at the National Archives in
Wash DC. And I list any local researchers who ask to be placed there. With
disclaimers of course. Several months ago, I tried to put Corky down, but she
wouldn't let me! <grin>

I vote yes. Actually, I thought this was already done. I added one
person to my page with those disclaimers.
Other then the vote, I'd like to add a thought that maybe the MTGenweb
page should carry a list of researchers who are willing to do research
State-Wide or unknown county work. There should still be a note to
visit each county site for more county specific researchers.
GenWeb exists so that customers can gain information on their relatives.
If the customer wants to pay someone to help them out, why would we
not want to help them use that avenue to gain information. If I didn't
know how to gather information on family members, yet I knew where they
where from, a Genealogy site that focused on their state or county is
the first place I'd look for someone to help me out. Sure, we want
information to be free and easily excessable, but some people don't have
the time and have the money or have a hard time with the web and have
the money, so I think we should at least show them that option.
Having said that, GenWeb should never charge for their information.
There is my two cents worth.

Those who do it always place two disclaimers on the page. 1) They urge that those seeking research diligently check out all of the USGenWeb Archives, GenConnect and Rootsweb surname and county searches, etc. before spending money on research, and that 2) USGenWeb in no way endorses any professional researcher. It is up to those seeking a researcher to check out the services and prices available through the various researchers.

Hi everyone!
I'm checking some links on the main page and would appreciate your "vote" on something that passes thru my brain now and again. <G>
I often get requests for names of professional researcher in Montana willing to do more extensive work, i.e. extensive courthouse or newspaper work, detailed census reports, etc. - data which cannot be found "yet" <G> on our MTGenWeb Project site.
As many of you know, I have a research business, Genealogy Research Service of Montana. I often receive requests by snail or by email (from paid-for advertising I do in magazines etc.) to conduct research in parts of the state where they would get much better research done by someone living in that area of Montana than what I can do from here - at least it would be less expensive for them that way.
Listing of "paid professional researchers" on USGenWeb sites is done on some sites, and receives mixed feelings from the membership.
So, folks, this is YOUR MTGenWeb. Please vote on the issue of whether or not I should add such a link to our main page so I'll know what your feelings are. I'll count whatever votes are in to me by next Friday, February 9th.
Thanks.

Hi!
Just to let you know that you may receive some emails from me with this addy on them. If you do, you can just hit 'reply', or you can use my other 'corkykn(a)imt.net' addy.
I recently went online with a cable modem, but am keeping my imt.net server for my web pages. They've been great to me over the years, and I have tons of web pages on their.
The issue, however, is that I use Eudora Pro (love it) as my main email program - where I get all of the corkykn(a)imt.net mail. I still receive mail fine through that address over my cable modem. The rub is, however, that imt.net won't allow relaying which prevents me from "sending" any email thru the cable modem. I have to connect up via my old modem to imt.net and then send my mail! That is not a big deal either to most people, but I don't seem to remember to disconnect! <G> That means that I end up staying online on the old modem for 2 hours or so. In order to afford the cable modem, I'm trying to cut my imt.net hours down to less than 5 per month to get the $5.00 rate. So, you see, it's really complicated for my little 'pea brain'. <LOL>
The short version of all of this is..... I'm trying out this cable modem for free for two months. At the end of that time I may 'toss' it for lack of funding! So, use whichever email addy you want for now.
Whew - more than you wanted to know, right?

QRYTEXT: My name is Chaun Meagher. I am from Indiana and I just got to
doing some research of my family's heritage and I've found that Thomas
F. Meagher was one of my great grandfathers. Upon further inspection I
also found that he lived in your state of Montana and that you named a
county after him in 1867. I find that this is the greatest respect ever
paid to my family and its name. I would like to express my appreciation
and gratitude to your state and its people and I hope to one day visit
your great state and this wonderfully paid tributed county of my
great, great, great(you get the point) grandfather. Thanks again!
