I agree with you, Ken, and I already am involved - am one of the ones in
favor of
some sort of listing (and posting so that all can see and be aware of them)
of rights (and responsibilities). To those who do not like rules, I
respectfully would like to say that there already ARE rules - different
ones in different states - apparently at times different ones for different
people - but always rules, some of which are not known until they are
broken, and some of which are apparently unequally enforced depending on
the mood of the "enforcer". Unfortunately, the rules that now exist do
not offer protection for the "low men on the totem pole" - the CCs. In
some states, this is not an issue - the fortunate CCs in these states
already benefit from "rights", even though there is nothing written about
them. At times, the current "rules"
apparently do not even offer protection for those who have more power than
CCs. Without some written protection, IMHO, the power differential in the
Project will continue to result in discrimination and abuse, with no
recourse available to dedicated CCs who have volunteered many hours to
their county sites.
We are all members of USGenWeb, in addition to being members of our state
GenWebs - whether we want to be, or not. If we choose not to become
involved with decisions that affect an organization to which we belong,
IMHO we have no right to gripe about decisions made by those who ARE
involved. If every CC in the Project would become involved with USGenWeb -
at least enough to know what is going on -
then maybe we would not need more "rules" to protect the more vulnerable of us.
I also congratulate you, John, and would also like to take this opportunity
to go on record of adding my support to you.
