Clare, you might check around for any type of death records. In Adams
County, for example, the Sexton records recorded deaths by race. Many that
were recorded did not have a last name - some were not even identified by
first name. But if you know the name of the "owner," or the cause of
death, approximate date of death, sometimes those records can be helpful.
