There have been many questions about the Registration Form on the
USGenWeb
Project's Election Site. The Election Committee would like to take a couple
of minutes of your time to explain the Registration Form:
During this past election the EC spent an unbelievable number of hours
trying to chase down good e-mail addresses for Project members. The number
of bounced e-mails from the two Announce Only e-mails numbered well into the
hundreds.
As can be imagined the EC spent a considerable amount of time discussing how
to reduce this huge, time-consuming chore. We came back time and time again
in our discussions to how in real life no one can vote unless they register
to vote. Even in our cyberspace group this idea made a lot of sense. The EC
believed that those who are interested in voting will register and those
who don't want to be bothered won't.
To test whether the volunteers of the Project felt the same the EC asked in
our Survey (after the Election) whether people would be willing to keep
their own information up to date. The overwhelming majority answered yes
they would.
Armed with the results of the Survey and with our own discussions the EC
decided to offer a Voter Registration Form on our site.
This form can be used by EVERY volunteer of the USGenWeb Project to register
to vote - whether you are a County, City, Township, State, State or Local
Level Special Project Coordinator or Special Project Member. The EC hopes to
use this registration form in the future as the Voter List for any election.
There is also a form on the site that allows you to change and/or update
your own information yourself.
The Election Committee encourages everyone to visit the EC's site and
register.
