Will check this out the next time I am in Choctaw Co. Was just
really curious as to what townships existed at the time the map was made
and which ones still exist.

Likely in an abstractors office in each county, you would find a "plat
map" for the county, showing the section lines within the county and a
graphic layout of the landholdings within each section. Each township
(containing 36 sections) would be named rather cryptically something
like T8N-R10E-S10. Does this help?
