Lela,
Yes, you can add RAM to laptops, but most of the chip "sticks" are not as
cheap as they are for desk top computers. RAM for some of the older
laptops can run very high, like $70 for 16MB. Much cheaper for newer
models. Go to
http://store.yahoo.com/tigerdirect-com/memory-laptop-memory-upgrades--sod...
and you will see 64MB RAM for as little as $24.99 for IBM laptops and 256MB
RAM for 139.99, also for IBM. Installation is usually very simple; most
laptops have a small hatch on the bottom held in by a tiny screw. Open the
hatch and there is the slot for memory. Follow instructions in your laptop
manual, and be careful to avoid static discharge while handling the memory
stick.

Hi All,
I use pagespinner 3.1 and dreamweaver because I have a mac. It sounds like
all of you have PC's.
If anyone needs mac help, I would be happy to assist.

Arachnophilia is free and easy to work with.

I tried Coffee Cup, Hot Dog, and DreamWeaver, and they all seemed to
complicate things more for me. They also locked my machine up from time

Actually I do know code but using an editor makes it a lot faster and easier.
I've been using AOLPress but have tried several in the last couple of months
because I'm now in charge of the website where I work. AOLPress no longer
has support and won't download on my computer at work. Besides it just
doesn't do all the fancy stuff many of the editors do now. I tried
coffeecup but I couldn't figure out a way to place my curser in the the page
then switch to the html code. It is just too time consuming to find where I
need to go in a complicated page of code.
Lori, thanks for letting me know about the RAM for dreamweaver. I am pushing
the envelope on my computer at home so that is a factor. Although not for my
computer at work. hmmmm, I've been thinking about buying a new computer so
this may make my decision for me.
Bill, can you add ram to laptops?
Lela
I probably didn't phrase that very well. That's just a consideration if you
don't have that much RAM. It's just something to take a look at if your PC
doesn't have this much. I had only 64 MB when I got Dreamweaver and had to
upgrade to 128 MB so that I could view the pages in a browser. It just
didn't work well without it.

I changed from Notepad to Wordpad myself last year and it is wonderful. I
can do so much more with it (grin).
No, actually I use Front Page and hate it. I rely on Hot Dog Professional to
clean up the Front Page messes. FP is great for setting up a good looking
template, but the overhead it imposes is tremendous and you can often
replicate thousands of bytes of FP code with just a smidgeon of real html
using the tools in Hot Dog.
I have not used Dreamweaver, but several of my professional associates swear
by it for their development work and they certainly turn out great looking
stuff.

I am looking into getting a new html editor. Does anyone have any
recommendations?
I was at the book store today and saw lots of books on Dreamweaver. Anyone
familiar with it? If so, pros and cons.......
Thanks for your imput.
Lela

Sorry 'bout that.

It appears if you want to get to Ancestry.com now, you must type in a different URL.
<http://www.ancestry.myfamily.com/main.htm>
But it would be nice of them to tell us what the URL is now for our BOARDS on the county
pages! Or at least notify us that the URLs we have wouldn't be working anymore.

Please say hello (on MSCHAT-L) to David Foster <dfoster1(a)ebicom.net>.
David has just adopted Union County from Betty Casey, who will be leaving
us after a long and successful run.
Betty, we're going to miss you.
David, if you need any help, just post a note to MSCHAT-L(a)rootsweb.com
I guarantee that if no one knows the answer, someone will make one up. <g>

Maybe this will explain some of it. I got this on my Bibb County, AL list
just a short time ago.

Late yesterday we began receiving reports that people could not
access ancestry.com or more importantly boards.ancestry.com (they
were receiving "host unknown" errors and traceroutes were impossible
to do as well).
The MyFamily NOC was called last night, engineers in Provo did
diagnostics that determined the problem was not with our (Provo's)
hardware, software, files, etc. Provo also believed it was an
isolated incident.
Today, we've received word that, as time goes by, more people are
unable to connect. The people who were having problems yesterday are
still having problems today.
This message is to let you know that the problem has been escalated
internally at Provo. No ETA on a fix/resolution. We have escalated
the problem.
It is a sloppy mess. Good news is it appears only *.ancestry.com
domains are affected.

Ok, what did I miss.???? All day today I have tried to click on my links and get my
boards, but I get a page not found. When I try to go to <http://www.ancestry.com>, I
also get a page not found. Did they up and fly away or did I miss a message???
