Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Hi! Just wanted to share some information on the National USGenConnect
Archives and USGenConnect Board situation that I recently found out and
thought perhaps inquiring minds would want to know ...
National USGenWeb Archives
Apparently, the fttp:// address is not working, but if you replace the
first fttp:// with http:// it works... This may just be a temporary
situation, read the emails below...
>From 2 messages from Linda Lewis to the Archives list:
at 12:58 Saturday:
Ask them to change the url to http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb and it
should work.
We might have to edit all our tocs and use http://ftp.rootsweb.com/ to
avoid this problem.
at 2:06 Saturday:
It's not absolutely, positively necessary "yet". <g> I've been changing
some over gradually, as a page is updated. In the daily-uploads reports,
I have been using http://ftp for a few months, and it cut down on a lot
of complaints.
The ftp://ftp address should work soon, though; so no need to panic. ;)
Second, USGenConnect Boards hard drive died that had the February 2001
info on it, they are still trying to get the archived messages for
February back up and running and will announce on the USGenConnect List
as the situation develops...
Hope this helps resolve some of the questions your CCs might have...

Shirley,
Could have been a "server" problem on my end. With all the
"unpredictable" weather we have been having here lately; have had some
problems connecting, surfing, etc.
No problem; but have no plans for changing anything in the near
future with my server or email address. Will certainly let you know if I do.
I know that you do not have time to be constantly checking email
addresses or handling "complaints" on the counties. Just let me know if the
problem persists and I will try to check it out and get it "fixed".

They should have all that backed up. At least I hope.
I'll leave this to Shirley! :)
I haven't checked mine and I have two counties. If I
have to, I'll just do a cut and paste and get them back
online.

I have all my stored in a special folder. I use mail

Are we talking about the same thing??? I went to all of the pages
(queries, obits, bios, etc.) that GenConnect has for Copiah County and I
do NOT see any announcement regarding the lost queries. Well, it is Friday
and maybe I should take the weekend off.

If you'll notice at the top of each board page, there is an announcement
that February postings were lost during the upgrade and that they are
doing their best to retrieve them.

That's not something that would have anything to do with
those counties. They were just named for those two
tribes.
The treaties would either be housed at the MDAH or the
National Archives. Treaties with the Native Americans
were with the federal government.
I'd suggest that this person contact the MDAH or the
National Archives. Even the Bureau of Land Management
might have copies, but I doubt it since they deal with
land after it entered the public domain.
