Hi!
Growing up in Mississippi and having relatives in the Delta, I've always
heard of Inverness (pronounced "IN-verness" and not "IN-VER-ness" like the
Scots do).
I suggest that you check "Hometown Mississippi." It lists almost every
Mississippi town includes a brief history.
Most libraries in Mississippi have it. I have a person who helps with the
Scott County site who has access to it. Just let me know.

Just for your information, Helen has been very ill for the last year but she still does what she can on the site and participates when ever she feels well enough to do so.

Keely,
My 1997 State Farm Road Atlas shows Inverness
located 9 miles south of Indianola on US49W, in
Sunflower Co. This atlas shows the population of
Inverness to be 1174 (in about 1997).
Just for additional info, I checked the 1895 Atlas,
and Inverness did not show up on the map for
Sunflower or surrounding counties. The 1895 Atlas
shows towns that were on the Postmaster's list, so
if established by the time of the 1895 Atlas, it
apparently was not on that list.
Good luck,
John

Hi Shirley,
Sorry for my negligence in getting back to you AND in welcoming you to your
new position. I have really been to busy to adequately fulfill my role as
county coordinator for Holmes County, but I am not ready to give it up as the
work really is important to me!

Thanks....and welcome!
I received the following question and "haven't a clue".
Anyone know about "Inverness"?
Keely
I have been spending most of the evening in this wonderful
MS website
particularly in the hunt for Inverness, Sunflower COunty.
However I can't
seem to locate it. Is it possible for someone to tell me
about the town of
Inverness, ie when it was established, and if it was or
still is always in
Sunflower, perhaps in some other county as I am just not
finding it. I
know my ancesters were there in 1890. Thank you for your
time and effort for
someone who is in Tucson and can't study as thoroughly as
would like.
Already I have a couple of CCs who are MIA <sigh>.
Please send to me at mailto:msgenweb@juno.com your name, e-mail address,
county, and the URL for your county website.
Thank you.

No, you be serious, I'll be Roebuck. ;-)
Yes, I thought the question was a logical one, since we're
required to have that information on the websites, and I hadn't
heard what the right email was to be. Last I heard on it, was
that you were "going to try" to get one someplace.
