Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I know Pacbell has had a lot of trouble in the last few weeks. Has Sue come back on line
yet? I have some items to be uploaded to the archives but get no reply on any of her
messages now. For a while they were all bouncing.

Rose,
See what happens when you aren't around to defend yourself at Chat!
OK, everybody! If nothing really bad happens...I will be in
Jackson in Oct!
Believe it or not...for a week or longer. Have found a cousin on
the internet and he has invited me to stay with him and his wife as long as
I want. This is going to my time to get to the MS Archives and dig to my
heart's content!
Am going to have some questions about the MSGenWeb flag by Thurs.
night. Actually, some ideas to "toss around".
So, see you all Thurs. night.

Hi Gang,
There's been a lot of good idea posted on Chat and we have paid for the tables.
Last Thursday Idea session on Mirc has been posted at http://www.rootsweb.com/~msgenweb/geniefair.html
I plan if at all possible to make it again this Thursday and have another Brainstorming session. Be there if you can.
Thanks,
Linda

Whew! There are some great ideas floating here.
Belinda, Ellen & I have been discussing MSGen having a table since this past Oct when I talked for FRA people at the last Fair.
I think this could be our chance to really get the word out on what WE really do. Also an opportunity to get more volunteers involved. I am ccing this to MSGEN because not everyone is subbed to Chat. I would love for this to be a State wide thing, Keely, Fred, Nikki and our other Special Projects as Well as EVERY CC & ACC in the MSGenWeb.
If You are not subbed to Chat or just want to confer with Belinda or I privately, Please do so. If you can't be there in body, please support us in this in Spirit. Our goal is to buy materials to transcribe and post online for the researchers. This is a BIG endeavor but one I feel sure can be very successful.
The Thursday Chat (such as tonight's) can be used for sharing ideas and coming up with plans. If we need to we can plan other chats at times convenient to for many of you as possible.
I love the idea of a book on the MSGenWeb and all of our CC's. We could also add our favorite links and Research ideas both online and off. I know from talking to people at the last fair that there are many researchers still floundering around online and some helps in one book would be a great asset.
I plan to be in Chat tonight and we can discuss this some more. I will also log the chat for those who can't make it and get it online so everyone will see what we discussed.
Ya'll are a great bunch and I Still LOVE my job!
Thanks,
Linda

Oh boy, how I wish I could do get in on this get together! Alas, it is pretty
much out of the question for me now. :o(
I might could do some searching and see if I can come up with some old recipes,
even remedies. I'll dig around and see what I might have saved from the
tornado, or what my Aunt might remember. My grandmother (maternal) was always
making her own medicines (no kidding) from roots, herbs and etc., and they
worked! I'll see what I can come up with. Whether I do or not, all of you
enjoy the get together. NOW...Be SURE someone(s) in the group take pics!
Please!!

I've answered this on MSCHAT, so we won't start clogging up the "business"

If we each made a flyer "advertising" our county (or counties),
would we need a flyer for each county or combine info on all counties on
one flyer? And, how many flyers would we need.
In the letter Linda posted earlier, there were about 1,000 in
attendance in 1999. Would that mean that we would need about 1,000 flyers?
Anyone got any ideas on what to include on a flyer for a county?
Date county was formed, location in the state, etc? Ideas for making a
flyer need to start bouncing around.
And, how large is the recipe book to be? A limit on the number of
pages...how many recipes do you now have...how many more do you need for a
good book...? Questions that need to be answered.

I know we'll be a big hit at the Fair by just standing around looking like
the Southern bells and gentlemen we all are, but...........
Do you think we need to draw up a basic flyer about MSGW that we can hand out?
Would yall be interested in drawing up a flyer about your specific
county? Perhaps the URL and something about what's available on your
site. I have no idea of how many copies of either type of flyer we'd
need. Thoughts?
Any other suggestions as to what we can offer customers?
We probably should move the discussion to MSCHAT. I also have a closed
and private mailing list available to me via Topica, if yall would like to
use it. It's not being used right now, but I can open it at any time.

Sounds good to me! Last year's get together in Biloxi was a lot of
fun...though someone got "misplaced" and missed some of the fun. Maybe this
year I can find a motel that will know that I haven't checked out!
About the booth, would each CC that had some info for sale need
one; or could we go together as a group and get a booth? Could take turns
"manning" the booth and no one would get "stuck" there all day.
Last yr, we had "special" planning sessions in the chat
room...could do the same for those who can't always get there on Thurs.
nights. Someone could be elected "chairperson" of the planning and keep
everyone posted on plan progress. (NOT me).
You asked for input...you have mine.

Hey Gang,
A CC get together has been talked about several times and since MSGenWeb has been invited to have a table at the Family Research Association Genealogy Fair, I thought it might be a good back drop for a get together! I have scanned the letter with what info I have as of now.
I placed a page and as we get more plans together I will post it there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~msgenweb/geniefair.html
We will discuss this and see what we can come up with to do here in Jackson, MS.

I have an idea really and wanted to run it past you guys and see what you
thought. I would love to get as many of the census records for Pontotoc
County on line. Only thing is I can't afford to buy all of these records
myself. I had found one place through rootsweb that had a really good deal.
I bought the 1870 CD for only $19.00. Couldn't wait for it to get here so I
could start to transcribe it and get it online. Well it came with a great
big copyright on it. I know that I could transcribe it anyway and someone
somewhere would have to prove that I did it from their CD but I don't like
messing with copyright. Any making a long story short. S&K Publication is
offering certain years on a deal where if for ex the year 1880 that need 14
people to sign up and pay $20.00 each. Once they have the 14 people they
will burn the CD and each person would recieve a copy. I am willing to sign
up for each year that they have so that I would be able to get a copy for
transcribing. Right now they are offering 1880-1920. Here is the big idea.
Would it be acceptable for me to let the people on my Pontotoc County
maillist know about this and see if any of them would like to go and sign
up and pay the fees. I'm just not sure that this is proper. Let me know
what you guys think.
Debbie
