CORINTHIAN CLIPPINGS FOR 1970
ELEPHANT ON THE LOOSE
Deland, Florida-A five ton elephant named Kate is on the loose, but nobody seems particularly worried about it.
"She's an old cow elephant just running around and hunting excitement," said Deputy Walter Smiley of the Volusia County sheriff's office.
Kate escaped from the winter quarters of the Clyde Beatty-Cole Brothers Circus here last weekend and the sheriff's office has been fielding a dozen tips a day since then.
Smiley said if officers tried to capture Kate, "it would be like a little dog chasing a car. We wouldn't know what to do with it if we caught it.
"The problem is to get her where the circus group can get hold of her," Smiley said.
"There's a good many thousand acres of wild land around here.
"She's had a taste of freedom and found she likes it, I guess," Smiley said.

FROST CAUSES AUTO COLLISION
This morning a frosty windshield hampered the vision of a motorist and is attributed with the cause of an accident on Cruise St. near the South Central Bell Telephone office.
Mark Dees, city policeman, stated that Clifford A. Mitchell, driving a 1963 Ford, hit a parked car owned by Mrs. Arlis Castleberry, a telephone company employee. This car, in turn, was knocked into a car owned by Willy Floyd.
Mitchell, about 17, lives at 1506 Proper St., Corinth.
