Hello fellow listers.
I'm new to this list and I'm looking for any GAUT ancestors. It is
pronounced the same way as 'taught' but has many variants as a result of how
it looks written, and, how it sounds when spoken and of course how people
wrote what they thought they had heard.
The variants are: GANT GAWT GAUGHT GAUTE GAUTT GOUT GOUTE GOUGHT GHAUT
GAUHT and so on ...
I have traced my GAUT ancestors from a 1789 marriage in Shropshire to
christenings and marriages in Blaenavon Monmouthshire. There are lots of
gaps and many marriages that cannot be found for family groups uncovered in
various census.
The GAUT's were prolific breeders and producers of twins and I'm sure one of
you must have a GAUT in your tree somewhere.
My main brick wall at the moment is Thomas GAWT who married Jane DAVIES in
1789 in Wombridge, Shropshire. His children were baptised in Wrockwardine
Shropshire but there is absolutely no evidence of him having any siblings or
parents. He somehow got himself beamed down into Shropshire from places
unknown.
Any help whatsoever with this brickwall would be immensely appreciated.
Thanks
