Dear List,
If anyone has access to the following sources, I'd be so grateful for a lookup for
Margaret DAVIES, the daughter of Edmund Davies, a clockmaker.
1) Llanhilleth parish registers, baptisms, 1835 to 1840
2) 1851 census index of Monmouthshire for the Llanhilleth area
She was born/baptised circa 1835-40, probably before July 1837 as no birth certificate has
been found. She was married in 1860 when 'of full age' which confirms this
estimation of her birth date, if it is accurate of course. Her father's occupation is
given as a clockmaker on her marriage certificate, this occupation could have various
different titles. Unfortunately, Margaret and her husband do not show up on the 1861
census as large chunks have been lost and she died between 1863 (when her daughter was
born) and the 1871 census which shows her husband as a widower so 1851 is the only useful
census on which she will show up.
I've known about her for a while now but following up her potentially interesting
ancestry has been impossible because I can't access the records that I need to break
down this brick wall. However, the marriage of Edmund Davies and Mary Rosser in
Llanhilleth in 1835 may be that of her parents.
Best wishes
James Phillips-Evans
