Well - I am still on the trail of my William VAUGHAN born somewhere in RAD
about 1793. The first record of him I can find is in Goytrey, MON, 13 May
1826 marrying Mary LEWIS of Goytrey - he was resident in Llanover, MON at
the time. In 1851 the census shows him as being born, "Radnorshire, NK".
Later censuses are no help as his farm itself is missing in 1861 and the
1871 (by when he is in Vaynor, BRE with his son's family) says he was born
in Llangynidr, BRE. He died in 1872 and didn't leave a will.
Getting desparate I have started looking for candidate neighbours who might
be in-laws or other relatives in the 1851 census. It turns out there are
only two other people in Goytrey in 1851 who say they were born in
Radnorshire. One is Thomas NEWMAN, joiner, age 41, born Cliro (presumably
Clyro in today's spelling), the other is Elizabeth, wife of David JENKINS,
age 58, born what looks like Llambed, Radnorshire. Maybe this is Llanbedr
(parish of Llanbedr-Painscastle), RAD?
I wonder if anyone knows of these families?
