There have been several messages recently where people are asking for
look-ups on various Census and Indexes. Can I just remind everyone that if
they have
access to images either through a web-based company or through CD-ROM
they CANNOT legally send a copy of those images to anyone without breaching
the terms of their contract with the suppliers of those images. The National
Burial Index terms and conditions are very clear about forbidding lookups of
any kind and the Federation of Family History Societies have said they will
prosecute anyone they catch.
Therefore, I have to ask that everyone who has sent information or images -
other than the "shared image" facility at Ancestry - to please stop doing it
through the list. Rootsweb is a free resource for genealogy and as such has
to be very careful. Their acceptable use policy does not allow commercial
advertising and breaches of copyright and terms and conditions of the sale
of CDs.
I would like to remain Admin for this list for a while longer and not find
myself removed for allowing such breaches of conditions to happen without
doing something.
Please don't fill the list with comments about this message, if you have
anything to say please contact me off list.
