Helen you have the same dilemma I have with common names, mine are John
Roberts who father was Robert Roberts...about a million that could fit...
and John's first wife Anne Jones...there again another million could fit. I
have given up until I find some less common info that attaches to the
family. I would say the passenger lists would be your saving Grace as It
tells where each person was born and also usually next of kin left in the
old country. A long tedious chore but I see you live in Ottawa where the
films are held.

Subject: JONES and JAMES
From the IGI I have found the marriage of my Welsh Great Great
Grandparents,
John JONES and Elizabeth JAMES. They were married 17 Dec 1828 in the
Parish
Church Llanvaches, Monmouthshire. It was "with the consent of .
. ."
David JAMES; thus, I presume, this must be Elizabeth's father. Now, my
problem is my pathetic effort to find a birth/christening record for these
two ancestors in order to go back one more generation. John and Elizabeth
emigrated from Wales in about 1831-2 and they died in Canada. Their
stone
inscriptions state John's date of birth as 18 Dec 1800;
Elizabeth's is 23
May 1807. But do you think I can find them in the IGI? I use the
Rowlands'
book to look up as much as I can about the parish names, but frankly
I am
becoming desperate. I am so anxious to learn and to verify the parents of
John JONES/JAMES and Elizabeth JAMES. The only way to do this (as far as
I
know) is to find the birth/christening records. So far I have one
possibility for John that lists the parents "John JAMES and ANNE JONES".
Does this seem reasonable?
